‘Clean Karachi’ Campaign Will Start from Tomorrow
Karachi: A media source reports that tomorrow (August 4), the federal government has chosen to launch its Clean Karachi campaign. In the next two weeks, we will proceed with the suggested project to clean up the port metropolis.
Syed Ali Haider Zaidi, Federal Maritime Minister, said that in two weeks they can clean up Karachi with the support of its people. He communicated this view on Twitter and got a positive response from over 15 private companies, celebrities and up to 5,000 volunteers.
According to sources, the drive for' clean Karachi' was initiated on orders of Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan, who had instructed the concerned officials immediately to start the campaign. In the past, Mayor Waseem Akhtar had written a letter to the Prime Minister informing about the municipal problems.
The campaign will aim all 13 city nullahs barred by garbage and dirt. During the second stage, waste from all fields in Karachi will be lifted.
Azhar Laghari, Zaidi's consultant, said they do not intend to deposit accumulated waste at locations of deposition. He said an approach was developed for effective use in the future. He added that by setting up camps at multiple stages, the volunteers would raise consciousness to render the cleaning system more efficient.
Laghari disclosed that it intended to make use of the federal government's resources assigned to Karachi to clear the town's waste.
Karachi Port Trust officials, K-Electric, Karachi Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Korangi Trade & Industry Association, Federal B Trade & Industry Area Association and several organizations have also agreed to promote the campaign for clean-up the city of lights.
