KP IG Said, the Peshawar mosque bomber was wearing a police uniform

Asserting that the suicide bomber "was clad in a police uniform," Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Authorities Chief Moazzam Jah Ansari stated on Thursday that the police were "closing in" on the terror network responsible for the suicide attack on a mosque in the Peshawar Police Lines neighborhood.

Between 300 and 400 people, predominantly police officers, had gathered for prayers in a mosque in Peshawar's Red Zone on Jan. 30 when a huge explosion tore through the building. 101 people were killed in the suicide bombing, which also destroyed part of the inner roof and the prayer hall wall.

The incident was perpetrated by the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). It eventually distanced itself from it, but previous information suggested that it might have been the work of a local group affiliated with the illegal organization.

Ansari stated that the police had discovered ball bearings from the blast site at a passionate press conference today during which he referred to police officers as his children. "We recovered ball bearings used in suicide jackets yesterday from beneath the mosque's ruins.

What is Currently Known

Suicide bomber rode a motorcycle into police lines while wearing a police uniform.

Police officers assumed he was "one of their own," so they didn't inspect him.

The explosion consumed 12–16 kg of TNT.

High toll resulted from explosion and pillarless building combination.

The body count may be altered because of potential list duplication

An FO spokeswoman claims that Pakistan expects the Afghan interim government to cooperate in the bombing investigation.

China says it is ready to expand its counterterrorism partnership with Pakistan.

The officer said, "This was a suicide bomber and we tracked him. We got CCTV evidence of his journey from Khyber Road to the Police Lines [...] then how he parked his motorcycle on a side [...] he was in a police uniform and was wearing a mask and a helmet.

He also stated that the police's discovery of the attacker's severed head at the explosion scene was accurate.

Police officers at the Police Lines' entrance, according to Ansari, neglected to stop the attacker because they believed he was one of their own.

"At 12:37 p.m., he (the assailant) rode his motorcycle through the main gate, went inside, and spoke with a constable, asking him where the mosque was. This indicates that the assailant was unaware of the surroundings, that he was given a target, and that a large network was assembled to support him. He wasn't acting alone, Ansari claimed.

He continued by saying that the police had also located the assailant's motorcycle. Investigation is a lengthy process that will take some patience, but we are working hard to complete it.

Ansari stated during the press conference that the explosion used 10–12 kg of TNT, a high explosive. The old building and the explosion together resulted in a significant death toll.

The shockwaves of trinitrotoluene blasts "had no space to travel elsewhere," he added, adding that this was the cause of the high death toll.

"There were no pillars in the 50-year-old mosque at the Peshawar Police Lines... The walls and ceiling collapsed as a result of the bomb explosion. For hours, my kids—the individuals who were inside the mosque—were trapped under the debris.

He continued by saying that the cops could have removed the debris in under two hours using heavy equipment, but they chose not to. This is the reason why there are patients in the hospital today who are still breathing.

The IG added that due to "duplicated" lists, the police were reviewing the total number of martyrs who had died. "After removing all duplicates, we will tell you the precise number of martyrs, and it will be done in a scientific manner."

"Will exact revenge for every death"

The police chief stated at the beginning of his press conference that there would be justice for every martyr.

"My police squad and I are currently experiencing great sorrow... People mistakenly think that even though we wear uniforms, we are also human beings with families and children. We are all in mourning, he declared.

The official stated that the police were going through a difficult moment and required the nation to extend a helping hand.

Ansari claimed that the police had protested the attack in order to "avenge each and every martyr," and he added that their sacrifices will not be in vain.

He said, "We fight for you and we will fight for ourselves."

Theoretical conspiracy

According to the police chief, "conspiracy theories" were being spread in order to "incite my children (policemen), lead them astray, and bring them to the streets."

Ansari was alluding to the unprecedented demonstration yesterday that police officers across KP staged, chanting anti-"unidentified individuals" chants.

Police officers reportedly came to the streets on Wednesday in Peshawar, Swabi, Malakand, and other parts of the province to chant pro-peace slogans. At the Peshawar police lines, they requested a thorough independent probe into the mosque explosion.

The protesting policemen claimed that they were protesting the "system" and that they had no choice but to take to the streets in order to protect the victims of terrorist attacks and to address the province's deteriorating law and order situation.

In his media appearance today, the KP IG discussed the demonstration and stated: "We were still burying our deceased when another storm arose. After being misled, my kids began to demand protection.

According to Ansari, "who would safeguard the country" if the officers, who had been taught to defend themselves, started talking about protection.

He continued, "This was the work of a small group of deceived individuals who had their own goal and needed to fabricate a problem in order to garner media attention.

I don't want to name names, but please stop hurting us, don't hit us, and stop presenting conspiracies. Let's look into it, let's make a decision, and then we'll present everything that happened.

The IG added that he had spoken with "my children" and instructed them that their responsibility was to track down the terrorists rather than raise a fuss. Every fight results in casualties on both our side and theirs.

He recalled that when he addressed his police force today, he and every officer swore an oath promising to fight against terrorism until they died.

There was no dissent in the police force, according to Ansari, who said that when he asked who was prepared to fight, "they all stood up."

"Examining the Jamaat-ul-Ahrar viewpoint"

In response to a query, Ansari stated that technological proof and data gathered by sensitive institutions revealed that the Jamaat-ul-Ahrar wing of the TTP was responsible for the explosion.

"The TTP claimed responsibility for the explosion, and there are no doubts as to why. However, they later denied it. He continued, "It appears that they conferred inside the gang and decided that they would face criticism for targeting a mosque.

The IG went on to state that, "from all the evidence, we can clearly say that Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, TTP, and a hostile intelligence agency working against the national security of Pakistan are behind it."

We are aware of the perpetrators, as well as the handlers and operators, the man claimed.

Pakistan anticipates assistance from the Afghan interim administration: FO

Separately, Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch expressed sorrow over the loss of innocent souls in the Peshawar suicide bombing during a weekly press conference on Thursday.

She stated that the Peshawar suicide attack was the subject of government investigations.

In response to a query, she stated that Pakistan anticipated participation in the investigation from the Afghan interim government. "A common threat to Pakistan and Afghanistan is terrorism."

In addition, Zahrah hoped that no nation would permit the use of its territory for terrorism in Pakistan. "We hope that the interim Afghan government will fulfill its promises to the international community," she said.

China is Prepared to Expand its Counterterrorism Partnership with Pakistan

Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang said China was eager to increase counterterrorism cooperation with Pakistan in separate phone discussions with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif today.

The Chinese president and premier declared that China vehemently opposes all types of terrorism and is prepared to expand counterterrorism cooperation with Pakistan in order to jointly uphold peace and security in the area and around the world.
