Punjab Government Plans On Redeveloping Wahdat Colony

The Government of Punjab has recently announced the redevelopment of WAHDAT COLONY Lahore. Wahdat Colony was built as a low rise housing colony in 1970's. The decision of redevelopment is to put the land of central Lahore to a good use. Lahore has limited and exceptionally costly land because of high population and ongoing infrastructure development throughout the city. According to estimates, Lahore populace is expanding by .6 million every year and we require 1 lac new housing units every year in Lahore. However, now Lahore Ring Road has defined limits of the city as main Lahore is inside Ring Road. Because of land limitation, it is extremely important to carefully use the remaining land in Lahore and the provincial government is headed in the right direction.

Background Of Wahdat Colony:

Wahdat Colony Lahore was created in 1970's on 2032 Kanal of Government Land. The project provides roughly 1800 families of Government Employees of Scale 17 and beneath with the housing. The majority of the houses are single story. Wahdat Colony is a low-density neighborhood that needs modern facilities which are vital for the modern lifestyle.

New Plan:

The Punjab Government has chosen to demolish the Colony and to redevelop it. The new development is intended to provide high rise apartments, hostels, markets, shopping malls, grounds, parks, parking plazas, hospitals, and Cinema. The point of the administration is to give better living offices and legitimate usage of land.

Why Is Redevelopment A Must?

The redevelopment of Wahdat Colony is the ultimate need. The limited land in Lahore is causing numerous issues in the city. It's difficult to provide housing to provincial employees. The middle class can't purchase houses in Lahore because of high property costs. The people of Lahore require affordable flat ventures in Lahore to deal with the housing shortage for both government workers and overall population.

Besides, Lahore has numerous unplanned residential schemes. These schemes or their neighborhoods are packed with slums. narrow streets and unhygienic living conditions are causing extreme medical issues. The government of Punjab should buy these regions and build modern flats and different amenities like commercial centers, parks, schools, clinics, etc.

Conclusion:

Redevelopment of Wahdat Colony Lahore is surely an incredible step in the history of Lahore and will indeed reshape the way we will live in future. However, what we require is to extend this project to all parts of Lahore and Punjab with a goal to provide affordable housing to the overall population.
