Punjab Govt Orders to Provide Electricity to SEZs

Lahore: The Punjab administration orders to deliver electricity immediately to the special economic zones (SEZs) in order to facilitate economic development in the province, a media source reported. Yousaf Naseem Khokhar, Secretary of the Punjab Chief, and Irfan Ali, Secretary of the Federal Power Division, spoke at a meeting.

Also attending the conference were the Federal Secretary of the Investment Board, Managing Director of the NTDC and Lahore Electric Supply Corporation (LESCO) CEO, together with regional industrial and energy secretaries.

The participants assessed suggestions on the supply of the required energy to Lahore's Sundar Industrial Estate, to Sheikhupura's Quaid-e-Azam Apparel Park and to Rahim Yar Khan, Vehari, Bhalwal's and Faisalabad's industrial estates.

In order to strengthen the domestic economy, the chief secretary said that industrial progress played a crucial part in this. In the context of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor agreement (CPEC), he also quoted China's example which is planning to build several SEZs in Pakistan. 

He said that the provincial govt had launched several projects to simplify strategies to attract buyers and to provide them with all the likely equipment within the regulatory framework.

In addition to the problems which hinder the evolution of SEZs on a priority grounds, he instructed the departments involved. He also requested the interested authorities to maintain the federal government up to date.
