Imran Determines of Accountability on His Return from U.S.

WASHINGTON: Prime Minister Imran Khan promised to ruthlessly account for looters and plunderers during the first anniversary of the 2018 general election.

“We have to transform all institutions which had been destroyed by thieves who only want to loot Pakistan,”

In the wee hours of Thursday afternoon, he said that he was greeted by thronged party workers that crowded the International Airport of Islamabad.

The PM, which returned from the United States after his three-day trip onboard a commercial flight, was warmly received in slogan and applause by senior political leaders and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf workers.

Mr Khan said he felt like he had come home after winning the World Cup, not on his official visit in answer to scenes of jubilation at the airport.

The PM said that he had requested the USA and other West countries to help Pakistan regain its ruled richness that the "they and robbers" had trapped abroad without naming former rulers.

Returns to Islamabad where cheering party workers warmly welcome him; PM says Pakistan, US share same objective of Afghan peace

Pakistan is a great country, he pledged.

On Tuesday, PM Khan and U.S. Secretary of Government Michael R. Pompeo discussed the need for greater coordination between the USA and Pakistan to restore peace to war-ravaged Afghanistan.

Pakistan is still working with the United States to promote the peace process of Afghanistan, the Prime Minister said, but it wouldn't be simple. Pakistan tried its utmost to engage the Taliban with and proceed to engage not only the United States, but the Afghan administration as well, Mr Khan said.

“Secretary Pompeo emphasised the continued importance of the United States and Pakistan working together to advance shared priorities, including Pakistan’s significant role in supporting the Afghan peace process and counterterrorism,”

Said a statement issued by the US State Department after the meeting.

“Secretary Pompeo welcomed the occasion to discuss opportunities for enhanced cooperation including expanded trade and investment opportunities.”

Pompeo looked forward to continuing advancement on mutual security objectives from Pakistan, including the defeat of terrorist groups that he expected would form the foundation of a strengthened relationship, the declaration added.

This was follow-up to the meeting of its Pakistani ambassador in Washington on 5 Sept. 2018 in Islamabad.

The prime minister said Pakistan was trying its best to get the Taliban engaged not just with the US but also with the Afghan government and would continue to do so.

“The whole country is standing behind me, the Pakistan Army, the security forces, all are behind me. We all have one object and it is exactly the same objective as the US, which is to have a peaceful solution as quickly as possible in Afghanistan,” he added.

PM Khan informed President Donald Trump and Pompeo that moving forward bilaterally needs shared confidence. He also informed them that his meetings were very helpful.

“I hope that from now onwards our relationship is on a different level,”

He said that, sadly, many misunderstandings had evolved over the last 40 years, especially over the last 15 years.

“So, what I hope is that by the time I leave, I would have made people here understand our point of view,”

He said that 70,000 Pakistani people were murdered and that when it came to the country, billions of USD were wasted during;

“fighting the US War on Terror”.

“Pakistan had nothing to do with 9/11. Al Qaeda was in Afghanistan. There were no militant Taliban in Pakistan. But we joined the US war,”

He added that in Pakistan there were 40 militant organizations and the government had no power.

“So, while the US expected us to do more and help [the] US win the war, Pakistan was at that time was fighting for its own existence”

Added that their sacrifices were not valued.

“We hope from now onwards our relationship will be completely different and rest assured I will make sure that our relationship is now based on truth … and mutual respect.”

Ms Pelosi assured Mr. Khan that the US “values the critical relationship, the partnership between the United States and Pakistan”.
